Sir,
The fact that Fianna Fail councillor Damien Blake was so annoyed when people complained about the Union Jack flag flying on the Main Street in Letterkenny, and then he had the cheek to describe them as bigots, but let's put it down to immaturity or lack of understanding as to how or why the flying of this flag can be so distasteful to more people than Councillor Blake may realise.
You made the same mistake on the Lisbon referendum, you did not keep your ear to the ground, so learn not to make assumptions' based on your own miscalculated beliefs.

A brief recollection now of why it's not just any old flag left to flutter in breeze - now some of the atrocities that even a naïve councillor should be aware of, Bloody Sunday, the Croke Park massacre, the burning of Cork, the Gibraltar murders, the sinking of the General
Belgrano, the degradation and murder of innocent Iraqis.

This should be enough to get my point across about the Union Jack having more blood on it than any butcher's apron without having to write a book on the subject. The flying of the Georges cross would not have been so provocative.

By me outlining some of these little points, that Councillor Blake may not have been informed about, the least he can do is thank me (via the letters page) for bringing it to his attention for future reference.
Yours,
J. Woods,
Gort an choirce.
