A pregnant woman was said to be in a comfortable condition at Letterkenny General Hospital yesterday afternoon following a road traffic accident which occurred at Ray Bridge outside Falcarragh earlier in the day.

The woman was the driver of a car
which is understood to have gone out of control and struck a wall. Her daughter who was a passenger in the car, escaped without injury.

A van which had to swerve to avoid the car also lost control and left the road at the same place. The driver of that vehicle was also uninjured.

Emergency services were called to the scene to free the occupants of both vehicles and have been praised for their prompt response in getting to the scene.

The incident was just the latest in a spate of accidents which took place in the West and North-West of the county during the week.

Gardai reported that because of the slippery conditions, a number of accidents took place in the Meenaroy road between Letterkenny and Fintown. At least five vehicles left the road on this stretch but luckily there were no injuries.

The main road between Letterkenny and Stranorlar was also in a hazardous condition on Tuesday because of an oil spillage which was made even more dangerous because of heavy rain. A number of motorists had narrow escapes when braking on the slippery surface but again, no injuries were reported although a number of cars were damaged when hitting the ditch.
